share the database
Importing a forum database into different forum software is very difficult. I've been through that before. A much easier solution would be to transfer ownership of the existing forum.

I doubt that he's going to volunteer to host the system on his computer if someone else intends to run it. In his place, I'd expect stayathomedev to copy the data to his own system, so cybereality can free up his computer. If stayathomedev wants to run the bbs software the old forum is using, it would make the transfer easier. Of course, the software is freely available, so all you really need from cybereality is the database.

Thankfully, Mike Lundahl reached out and offered to take over the forum. He's an experienced game developer, and also working on a very cool looking game using Godot (
https://www.youtube.com/@projectucg ). We just started the migration, so it may take a few days to complete. I will be assisting with the transfer, but after that I won't be involved. It will be fully owned and managed by Mike.

I guess the next question is, what to do about the current forum fragmentation?

It's a question. I like the classic look of the forum better than the strip (ribbon).
Well, that forum will be down for a few days yet. That gives time to think about it.

I agree, and my luakit browser constantly chokes on the ribbon once there are more than a half-dozen posts. It got to the point where I was shutting scripting off while reading so it would give me a page at a time. Editing a post was painful too.
phpBB works perfectly with my browser. Go figure.

This worlds " It will be fully owned and maged by ..." is bad, at least, we should share we a few semi-admins to have ready-only access to the databases for multiple backups... Just to prevent, you know, this from ever happen again.

It would be nice if the data could be backed up to github or such, so anyone could access it.
