At what point you could show for the first time your game?

So... Im making a survival/story game and... I really wanted to show the game to this and other communities but... I have 2 questions...

1. At what point of the development is good to show the game? Like... I made some pilars of the game like the player, blocks (is not a game like minecraft) and other things, but im not sure if its enough to... example, show in a video.

2. If the game is too incomplete or with only few things to show... it will be boring to people, even later with the game complete?

I really wanted to make a devlog but, i dont know many things to make and adminstrate one... and, i feel a bit worried if the people will like or even watch if i made one... so, any tips will be very good!

One option is to use a different name for the early version of your game. You could even post it using a different name for the author.

Depends on whether you have an audience or not, and if not, how you would get an audience. Think of anything you show as your marketing, because that really starts early on. If you have the funnel in place to grab anyone interested and connect them to a wishlist, email list, etc, then try some Reddit posts, Twitter (#screenshotsaturday).

Honestly, anything you show will likely have to be short if you sharing on short-form content. Like 15-30 seconds really. So you won't be able to show much anyway. Breaking things up and showing up 1 feature at a time can work well.

Devlogs are great but you gotta really hit the audience's interest since you'll likely have no pull without an existing channel. You can share a YT devlog on other social media but that rarely works well IMO (different social audiences). BUT if you have a great look to your game or can really hook people with an interesting or different feature, then a nice 6-10 min devlog can do VERY well. Lots of people are looking for devlogs and find them interesting.

@stayathomedev has given some pretty useful information, the short videos are an absolute must, you will not get most people clicking on this stuff unless it's less than a minute unfortunately, people are frankly lazy and they aren't going to 'waste' their time watching something unless they can get sucked in first.

Regarding when? Well it depends, I think you can get very mixed reactions from people on this one. For me the main thing is transparency and as long as you're totally upfront that's usually what people respect I've noticed. It's the devs and especially the big studios that try to hide their work and make it out it's this mysterious thing to develop again that attract a lot of deserved ire from gamers.

There is a Godot Project Showcase topic on this forum. You can open your own thread there. Several projects are already there. If you already have things that you consider important, it's quite time to show them.

You can be upfront about your plans, but if you don't fulfill them, then some people may say that you are lying and that you are a Nigerian prince. Some secrecy is necessary… in practice.
