Godot Engine – My First Impressions as an Unreal Developer

Should you use the Godot Engine?

I take the Godot Engine (3.5) for a spin to see how it compares to the Unreal Engine and Unity. Godot is a 2D and 3D engine initially released in 2014 and is currently awaiting a 4.0 release with additional features.

I walk through the initial installation and setup, highlight what game development features (2D, GDScript) impressed me the most, and discuss the areas where the Godot Engine is lacking vs Unity and Unreal.

Finally I answer the question of whether you as an indie game dev should make the switch to the Godot Engine.
