Customizable GodotSky Parameters

GodotSky features a number of customizable parameters to allow you to adjust the sky according to the needs of your project. These parameters are found within the Sky Presets of the GodotSky Control. Two presets are including: default and alien.

Time Of Day Alpha

A number of parameters make use of the Time Of Day Alpha, which is a 0 to 1 value representing the time of day, more specifically the height of the sun. 0 is where the sun is at it’s lowest (midnight) and 1 is where the sun is at it’s highest (noon).

Example: Sun Light Intensity might equal 0 when the TOD Alpha equals 0, and 1 when the TOD Alpha equals 1. The intensity would change during dusk and dawn, or the middle of our alpha, around 0.5.

Parameter Details

Sun Adjustments

  • Sun Radius – Controls the size of the sun
  • Sun Edge Blur – Controls the sharpness of the sun’s edge
  • Sun Light Intensity – Controls the intensity of the directional light (Sun) using the TimeOfDay Alpha
  • Sun Glow Intensity – Controls the intensity of the light glow around the sun, particularly as it gets closer to the horizon and to clouds

Moon Adjustments

  • Moon Radius – Controls the size of the moon
  • Moon Edge Blur – Controls the sharpness of the moon’s edge
  • Moon Light Intensity – Controls the intensity of the directional light (Moon) using the TimeOfDay Alpha
  • Moon Glow Intensity – Controls the intensity of the light glow around the moon, particularly as it gets closer to the horizon and to clouds

Horizon Adjustments

  • Horizon Size – Controls the size of the horizon gradient
  • Horizon Alpha – Controls the opacity of the horizon gradient

Clouds

  • Cloud Density – Controls the density strength (color) of the clouds
  • Cloud Glow – Controls the size of glow effect when the sun and moon are near clouds

Stars

  • Star Color – Controls the albedo color of the starmap
  • Star Brightness – Controls the overall brightness of the starmap
  • Star Resolution – Controls the mipmap used for the starmap texture (-1 being the highest)
  • Twinkle Speed – Controls the speed of the twinkling effect
  • Twinkle Scale – Controls the scale of the twinkle effect, lower numbers will cause more stars to twinkle

Color Curves (using TimeOfDay Alpha)

  • Base Sky Color – Controls the base color of the sky (typically blue)
  • Base Cloud Color – Controls the base color of the clouds
  • Horizon Fogo Color – Controls the color of the horizon “fog” effect
  • Sun Light Color – Controls the color of the directional light (sun)
  • Sun Disc Color – Controls the color of the visible sun
  • Sun Glow – Controls the color of the sun glow effect
  • Moon Light Color – Controls the color of the directional light (moon)
  • Moon Glow Color – Controls the color of the moon glow effect
